ECDA Childcare Subsidy Calculator: A Complete Parent’s Guide

Starting your child’s preschool journey is an important milestone for every family.

Beyond choosing the right learning environment, parents often wonder how to manage preschool fees and what subsidies they may be eligible for. Once you’ve secured a place for your child, the next step is to understand how ECDA childcare subsidies work and how the ECDA Childcare Subsidy Calculator can help you plan ahead.

What are the ECDA Childcare Subsidies?

The Infant & Childcare Subsidy Scheme, under ECDA, provides financial support to Singaporean citizen children enrolled in ECDA-licensed infant care or childcare centres.

Subsidy Type What it does Who gets it
Basic Subsidy A fixed subsidy amount to reduce base preschool/infant care or childcare fees All SC children enrolled in ECDA-licensed centres; the amount depends on whether the main subsidy applicant (mother or single father) is working (≥ 56 hours/month) or non-working
Additional Subsidy Means-tested subsidy on top of Basic, to further reduce fees for lower/middle income families Must meet income thresholds (Household Monthly Income ≤ $12,000 OR for households of 5+ members, Per Capita Income ≤ $3,000) and have a working main applicant

Note: A minimum co-payment applies, and subsidy amounts are reassessed only at fixed points (e.g. when your child changes centres or progresses to a new programme level).

Step-by-Step: Using the ECDA Preschool Subsidy Calculator

  1. Go to the official ECDA Preschool Subsidy Calculator on the ECDA website.
  2. Choose the programme type:  Infant Care or Childcare, and select full-day/half-day/flexi-care.
  3. Enter household income or PCI (if applicable).
  4. Indicate the main applicant’s working status.
  5. Review the estimated subsidies (Basic and Additional, if eligible).
  6. Work out your net monthly fee by subtracting subsidies from your centre’s published fees, keeping in mind the minimum co-payment.

How to Apply for the Subsidy

After confirming your child’s enrolment:

  1. Complete Form 1 (Child Care Enrolment & Subsidy Application).
  2. Submit via LifeSG if available (progressively rolled out by ECDA).
  3. Provide necessary documents (e.g. income, employment, NRICs).
  4. ECDA will verify and approve; subsidies are credited directly to your preschool, and you pay the net fee.
