This year, Little Footprints @ Thomson is collaborating with Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) as part of their Start Small Dream Big 2018 project to raise awareness and inculcate social acceptance for the visually-impaired.
To support our movement towards being an inclusive society, we stamped little footprints on a banner. The kiddos also performed a song titled “地球的孩子” in sign language.
Uncle Derrick and his guide dog Jordie, from GDS were invited to share with us more about the visually-impaired community.
Did you know that there are different forms of visual impairment? Our children tried on various goggles that simulates the different visions. Uncle Derrick also shared some of the challenges that he faces, and tips on how we can help. Our young charges are now equipped with the knowledge on how to approach and guide the blind or visually-impaired!
In the month of May, Little Footprints @ Thomson will be raising funds by saving a portion of their allowance for GDS. In line with Little Footprint’s core values, this meaningful learning experience reinforces the importance of caring for the community. This initiative is also a good introduction to financial literacy and cultivating good money sense at a young age.
To understand the challenges that the visually-impaired are facing, our children are going to experience dining in a dim environment. Parents of Little Footprints @ Thomson will be invited to participate, so watch this space for more updates!
Our mission to cultivate strong traits and values in young children begin with loving and caring for our community. Join us as we embark on future projects with various community organisations to nurture your child into a caring and responsible citizen.
Visit us at our upcoming Open House, 12 May 2018 (Saturday) 10am to 12pm to find out more.
